YOU AND YOUAND

YOU: This feels a bit hopeless.

YOUAND: You seem afraid that you’re not going to be able to learn this.

YOU: I think you’re right. I want to be able to get along with people better. And I just don't know what to do.

YOUAND: I think we all would like that. And we all have a lot to learn. You're not alone. How about this, let’s start from the beginning . . .What do you want in your relationship with your friend Eunice? What do you want in your relationship with your cousin?

YOU: Wow . . . those are great questions. I never thought of them.

YOUAND: (Listening)

YOU: What do I want in my relationship with my girlfriend? What do I want in my relationship with my family member?

YOUAND: (Listening)

YOU: And then, my cousin got all upset at me because he said I was talking behind his back!

YOUAND: What did you do with your cousin?

YOU: He was so disrespectful!

YOU AND YOUAND (cont.)

YOU: I got into a big argument with a good friend Eunice last night.

YOUAND: What happened?

YOU: We were talking about politics and another friend, Hubert, asked me why I thought our country is in so much trouble. I began to answer and Eunice interrupted and began talking about her opinion about how the country is not so bad off.

YOUAND: And what did you do?

YOU: Well, I began to argue with her about her opinion. And she got very angry and started storming around the house screaming and shouting.

YOUAND: How did you respond to that?

YOU: I continued to give my answer to the original question that was asked. But there was a tension in the air. And it felt really bad. Now, I don't know if I want to risk having any kind of discussion about opinions with Eunice again.

YOUAND: How do you feel about about the whole thing?

YOU: I feel very sad, because Eunice and I are such good friends, and this sense of separationn feels very awkward and, well like I said, "sad." I feel sad.

YOUAND: Do you know why you feel so sad?

YOU AND YOUAND (cont.)

YOU So you're saying, just knowing that vital and meaningful relationships are something I want with people, that in itself is seeing the invisible?

YOUAND If you hadn't been thinking about that before, it might be. What do you think?

YOU All I know is that since we began to have this conversation, I've been paying lot more attention to the way I relate to other people.

YOUAND Do you know why that is?

YOU I just hadn't thought about the way I get along with people before. I didn't know I could do anything about it.

YOUAND What can you do about it now?

YOU What can I do about it . . . ?

YOU OK, the "invisible" part.

YOUAND Yes, what would you like to know.

YOU I'd like to see what's "invisible," that we talked about earlier, if it will help me to create deep and meaningful relationships with people.

YOUAND That sounds like a start to me; to "see" that having meaningful relationships is important to you. Had you thought of that before?

YOU I hadn't. Is that part of the "invisible" part too?

YOUAND What do you think?

CHECK-IN: BEAUTIFUL CONNECTIONS

We just had a conversation over at YouandmovieSpace. It might interest folks who'd like to enjoy life more with their "significant other." We also talked about a really cool movie.
